Nepal Country-Specific Information:

On September 1, the Government of Nepal announced an end to a country-wide lockdown in place since late April 2021. The Government of Nepal continues to strictly monitor and enforce safety measures to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has extended the suspension of some international flights and has established a restricted flight schedule. CAAN has announced that most domestic flights have resumed, though strict COVID protocols will be enforced. Please check with your airline regarding future flight availability and any necessary flight re-bookings. Operation of cargo flights, rescue flights, and evacuation flights will be carried out subject to special permission.

Foreigners requiring visa-related services should consult the Nepal Department of Immigration for information. The Ministry of Home Affairs and Department of Immigration have announced the following measures for foreigners currently residing in Nepal and unable to renew their visas due or depart Nepal to the prohibitory orders and/or a lack of departing international flights:

Foreigners with a Nepali visa valid until September 30, 2021, who depart Nepal by December 31, 2021 will not incur any additional charges (visa fee, late fee, or penalty) at the time of departure.
Foreigners with a Nepali visa valid until September 30, 2021, who apply for visa renewal to continue their stay in Nepal by December 31, 2021, will not incur a late fee or penalty from the Department of Immigration or Immigration Offices.
Foreigners departing Nepal or applying for a visa renewal after December 31, 2021, will be charged all regular fees as per applicable immigration laws.
The current maximum visa duration of 270 days within a calendar year for tourist visa holders may be extended up to 360 days in consideration of the lockdown orders.

COVID-19 Testing:

PCR and/or antigen tests are available locally for U.S. citizens and test results are reliably available within 72 hours.
Several government designated hospitals offer COVID-19 testing. Individuals must pay the cost of testing, which has been mandated by the government at Rs. 2,200.
Hospitals offering tests include: Star Hospital, Sanepa Heights Road, Lalitpur, (01) 555-0197; HAMS, Mandikhatar, Kathmandu, (01) 437-7404; Siddhi Poly Path Laboratory, Dillibazaar, Kathmandu, (01) 441-0604; Patan Hospital; Bhaktapur Hospital; Teaching Hospital; Teku Hospital; Bir Hospital; Prasuti Griha; Nepal Korea Friendship Hospital; Civil Hospital; KMC Hospital; A.P.F. Hospital; Birendra Hospital; and Nepal Police Hospital.

COVID-19 Vaccine Information:

The United States Government continues to work with other countries to ensure that all citizens, including, U.S. citizens abroad, can receive vaccinations through local vaccine programs and in accordance with national vaccination plans. The Government of Nepal has approved the use of the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine for use locally, and is in the process of approving additional vaccines as they are made available.
Please check with the Ministry of Health and local ward offices for the latest information on vaccine availability.
