Ancient inscriptions found in Patan Durbar area

Some archaeological records have been discovered in the Patan Durbar Square area in ​​Lalitpur. While digging a ditch inside the Durbar Square premises, a 6-foot-tall Lichchavi-era inscription was found underneath a golden window in front of the Bhimsen temple. The records were found by a team of archaeologists led by Prakash Darnal.

An inscription of the pre-medieval period was found on 14 September 2021 while digging a ditch. The records of the middle ages were found underground on December 20.

The inscriptions, which could not be easily read due to mixing with cement, are mentioned in the Licchavi script and old Sanskrit language. A total of 15 rows of inscriptions are engraved on the right and left of the carvings of a deer and a ‘Dharmachakra’. The inscription is 85 cm long and 52 cm wide.

The name of Anshu Varma is mentioned in the inscription. In it, the date of June 479 AD is clearly written. This inscription also clearly states that King Vrishadeva built a monastery there.
